Christopher Laurent
Welcome to Christopher Laurent’s contact information page! I am trained as a cultural anthropologist with a research focus on Japan. I completed my PhD in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Montreal in 2019 and my MA in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Asia Pacific Studies at the University of San Francisco.
I have researched how food entrepreneurs draw on local food traditions to revitalize rural areas in Japan. I have also examined the reaction of young Koreans in Japan to the rise of far-right groups in Japan. My current project explores the everyday forms of resistance of the Korean minority in Japan. I also blog with the goal of introducing my research to the public. My most recent posts have been about the Korean diaspora and cuisine in Japan.
